EXPLORING ZANZIBAR

                                                                                                                     3rd May 2015

Our second day started very earlier. It was 7pm when Olivia and I woke up because of a lovely but strange sound. We drew the curtains and for our surprise, there was a really nice kingfisher, so we decided to take him a photo!! ♥

After that pretty moment, we got dressed and we went downstairs with out bags and maps, prepared for exploring the city, so we had an extraordinary breakfast with the other guests of the hotel and we left it.

Walking down Stone Town`s streets made us notice that every single detail was very curious and beautiful... the doors, buildings, the narrow pavements... everything had to be photographed.

Walking and walking we arrived to the Palace Museum. This is a large white building with castellated battlements, built in the 1890's for members of the Sultan's family. Originally, it was called the Sultan's Palace, but in 1911 it became the official residence of the Sultan of Zanzibar, and after the revolution in 1964 it was renamed as the Peoples' Palace. Finally, in 1994, the palace was turned into a museum dedicated to the history of Zanzibar's Sultans which necessitated a third change of name to the Palace Museum.

We couldn´t take pictures inside of the building because cameras and flashes were not allowed. But, anyway, after it we arrived to the Peace Memorial Museum. It is an interesting look at Zanzibar's history. It has sections on archaeology, early trade, slavery, palaces, mosques, sultans, explorers, missionaries, colonial administrators, traditional crafts and household items, stamps, coins...

At lunch´s time we went to a restaurant near the centre of the town called Zanzest Beach Bungalows Restaurant, were we spent one and a half hours talking about what we´d seen in the city and eating that delicious food.

Finally, in the evening we went directly to the hotel´s pool, crossing the local market. It was so funny!
